Experiências de Bullying e Vergonha Externa em Adolescentes do 3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico

O bullying, à semelhança da temática da vergonha, tem vindo a assumir grande importância na investigação científica pelo facto de ambas regularem as relações interpessoais e se difundirem como influentes na formação e manutenção de patologias.
O presente estudo tem como principal objetivo analisar o impacto que as experiências de vergonha externa têm nos adolescentes vítimas de bullying.
Para a realização desta investigação foi recolhida uma amostra constituída por 180 alunos que frequentam o 3º ciclo do ensino básico, sendo 93 do sexo feminino e 87 do sexo masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 12 e os 17 anos e idade média de 13,79 anos (DP=1,26).
No que diz respeito à recolha de dados, utilizaram-se os seguintes instrumentos: o Questionário Bullying – A agressividade entre as crianças na escola, a Escala de Vergonha Externa (OAS - Others As Shamers) e um Questionário Sociodemográfico criado especificamente para este estudo.
Os resultados revelaram a existência de relações estatisticamente significativas entre as experiências de vitimação e as de vergonha externa, o que sugere que as experiências de vitimação podem influenciar as experiências de vergonha externa. Também existe evidência para afirmar que o sexo feminino apresenta valores médios superiores nas experiências de vergonha externa. Além disso, o estudo efetuado permitiu verificar que as experiências de vitimação estão positivamente associadas aos sentimentos das vítimas subsequentes à agressão.
Apurou-se ainda que, face aos não envolvidos, as vítimas e as vítimas e agressores, apresentam valores mais elevados de vergonha externa.
Este estudo vem contribuir para a expansão dos temas bullying e vergonha, visto apresentar novas perspetivas alusivas à natureza da vergonha externa enquanto resultado de comportamentos de índole negativo no quotidiano dos adolescentes, em contexto escolar. / Bullying, like the issue of shame, has become very important in scientific investigation as both regulate interpersonal relationships and diffuse as influential in the development and maintaining of pathologies.
The current study has the main goal of analysing the impact that the experiences of external shame have on bullied teenagers.
In order to undertake this investigation was collected a sample composed of 180 students attending lower secondary, 93 female and 87 male, aged between 12 and 17 with the average age of 13,79 (SD=1,26).
In what concerns data collection, the following instruments were used: the Bullying Questionnaire – The aggressiveness among children at school, the External Shame Scale (OAS - Others As Shamers) and a Sociodemographic Questionnaire specifically created for this study.
The results revealed the existence of statistically significant relationships between the victimisation experiences and external shame experiences, which suggests that victimisation experiences can influence external shame experiences. There is also evidence to state that the female gender shows higher average values in the external shame experiences. In addition to this, the conducted study has showed that the victimisation experiences are positively associated with victims’ feelings following the aggression. It was also found that, compared to those who were not involved, victims and victims and aggressors show higher values of external shame.
This study will contribute to the spread of the subjects of bullying and shame, as it presents new perspectives on the nature of external shame as a result of negative behaviours in the daily lives of teenagers at school.
