Introduction: The literature evidences the association between personality dimensions and some variables of positive psychology: affects, self-compassion, mindfulness and hope. Since in Portugal there are few investigations on this subject, it is pertinent to study these associations in the Portuguese population. Objectives: 1) To study the associations between personality, positive/negative affects, selfcompassion, mindfulness and hope; 2) Analyze the differences in the constructs studied according to socio-demographic variables (sex, area of residence, locality, literacy, marital status and sibling position); 3) Study differences in the variables NEO-FFI, PANAS and hope according to the levels of self-compassion. Methodology: The sample consisted of 556 participants, 44.1% man and 55.9% women, aged 18-91 years (M = 39.74; SD = 12.86), being the overwhelming majority of Portuguese nationality (96.6%). Participants completed a protocol consisting of: Informed Consent, Sociodemographic Questionnaire, NEO-FFI, PANAS, SELFCS, QCFM and Scale about Hope. Results: There are positive correlations between neuroticism and negative affect and between extraversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness with positive affect, selfcompassion, mindfulness and hope. Differences were found according to sex in neuroticism, with higher scores in women, and in extroversion with higher scores in men. Are also men who have the highest levels of positive affect and hope. Finally, the lower levels of self-compassion correspond to highest levels of neuroticism and negative affect, whereas the highest the self-compassion, the higher the levels of extraversion, openness to experience, kindness, positive affect and hope. Discussion and Conclusion: This study highlights the direct associations between the most positive dimensions of personality (extroversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness) and the variables of positive psychology (positive affect, self-compassion and mindfulness) and between the most negative dimensions of personality (neuroticism) and a less positive functioning (negative affect). This study reinforces the importance of investing in preventive and therapeutic approaches that value positive aspects of psychological functioning.
