dc.description.abstract	Introdução:A menopausa é a fase em que cessa a capacidade reprodutiva da mulher. Esta tende a acarretar mudanças na satisfação conjugal e no desejo sexual. Existem poucos estudos nacionais e internacionais que foquem estas mudanças em mulheres em menopausa e muito poucos estudos que comparem mulheres em menopausa com mulheres que não estão em menopausa a este nível. São nossos objetivos: explorar os níveis de satisfação conjugal, desejo sexual, sintomas depressiva, ansiosos e stresse em mulheres em menopausa; comparar estes níveis com os de mulheres que não estão em menopausa; e explorar a associação entre estas variáveis nas duas amostras. Método: 133 mulheres (em menopausa, n = 33; 24,8%; idade média = 54,64, DP = 7,47; sem estarem em menopausa, n = 100; 75,2%; idade média = 33,57; DP =7,77), responderam a questões sociodemográficas e sobre o desejo sexual, satisfação conjugal (no passado e actualmente), história de sintomas depressivos e de alterações de humor em toda a vida, à Escala de Avaliação da Satisfação em Áreas da Vida Conjugal (EASAVIC), ao Índice Hurlbert do Desejo Sexual (IHDS) e à Escala de Ansiedade, Depressão e Stress-21 (EADS-21). Resultados:Verificou-se existir uma maior proporção de mulheres casadas vs. em união de facto entre as mulheres em menopausa (versus mulheres que não se estavam em menopausa, que revelaram proporções mais equilibradas nesta variável). Encontrou-se maior proporção de mulheres com filhos e uma duração maior da relação actual entre as mulheres em menopausa (versus mulheres que não estavam em menopausa). Quando consideramos todas as dimensões do estudo (EASAVIC; IHDS e EADS-21) apenas se encontraram diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas dimensões do IHDS desejo relacional e fantasias, com as mulheres em menopausa a apresentarem níveis mais baixos nestas dimensões (vs. mulheres que não estavam em menopausa). Correlacionando estas duas dimensões com todas as dimensões da EASAVIC, IHDS e EADS-21, nas mulheres que não estão em menopausa verificou-se que: quanto maior o desejo relacional, maiores os níveis na maioria das variáveis de satisfação conjugal e menores os níveis de depressão e stresse; quanto maior o nível na dimensão fantasias maiores os níveis da dimensão sexualidade (EASAVIC) e menores os níveis de depressão. Nas mulheres que estão em menopausa verificou-se que: quanto maior o nível de desejo relacional, menores os níveis de depressão e maiores os níveis de dimensões específicas da EASAVIC (comunicação e conflitos, sexualidade e intimidade emocional); quanto maiores o níveis da dimensão fantasias maiores os níveis, de novo, de dimensões específicas da EASAVIC (autonomia, comunicação e conflitos) e menores os níveis da dimensão específica rede social (da EASAVIC). Discussão: Ao contrário do esperado não foram encontradas diferenças entre as mulheres em menopausa e mulheres que não se encontravam em menopausa nas dimensões de satisfação conjugal e na sintomatologia depressiva, ansiosa e stresse. Porém, as mulheres que se encontravam na menopausa apresentavam níveis menores de desejo relacional e de fantasias(do que as mulheres que não estavam nesta fase). Níveis maiores nestas dimensões associaram-se a níveis menores de sintomas depressivos e maiores em dimensões específicas da satisfação conjugal. / Introduction: Menopause is the phase in which the reproductive capacity of a woman ends. It tends to cause changes in marital satisfaction and sexual desire. There are few national and international studies that focus these changes in women that are in the menopause and very few studies that compare women in the menopause with women who are not in the menopause. Our goals are to: explore the levels of marital satisfaction, sexual desire, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms and stress in women in the menopauseand compare these levels with women who are not in the menopause; and explore the association between these variables in both samples. Methods: 133 women (in the menopause, n = 33; 24.8%; mean age = 54.64, SD = 7.47; without being in the menopause, n = 100; 75.2%; mean age = 33.57; SD = 7.77), answered demographic questions and questions about sexual desire, marital satisfaction (past and present), history of depressive symptoms and lifetime mood changes, Scale of Assessment of Satisfaction in Marital Life Areas (EASAVIC), the Hurlbert Index of Sexual Desire (IHDS) and the Scale of Anxiety, Depression and Stress-21 (EADS-21). Results:There was a higher proportion of married women versus women in common law marriage among women in the menopause (versus women who were not in the menopause, that revealed a more balanced proportion in this variable). We found a greater proportion of women withc hildren and a longer duration of their present relationship between women in the menopause (versus women that were not in the menopause). When considering all the dimensions of the study (EASAVIC; IHDS and EADS-21), there were only statistically significant differences in the dimensions of IHDS relational desire and fantasies with women in the menopause presenting lower levels in these dimensions (versus women who were not in the menopause). Correlating these two dimensions with all the dimensions of EASAVIC, IHDS and EADS-21, in women who were not in the menopause we verified that: the greater the level of relational desire, the higher the levels in the majority of the variables of marital satisfaction and lower were the depressive symptoms and stress levels; the higher the level of fantasies, the higher the levels of sexuality (EASAVIC) and lower the levels of depressive symptoms. In women who were in the menopause: the higher the level of relational desire, the lower the levels of depressive symptoms and the higher the levels of specific dimensions from the EASAVIC (communication and conflicts, sexuality and emotional intimacy); the higher the levels of fantasies, again, the higher the specific dimensionsof EASAVIC (autonomy, communication and conflicts) and the lower the levels of the specific dimension social network (of EASAVIC). Discussion: Contrary to the expected there were no differences between women in the menopause and women that were not in the menopause in dimensions of marital satisfaction and in depressive and anxiety symptoms and stress levels. However, women that were in the menopause presented lower levels of relational desire and of fantasies (versus women that were not in this phase). Higher levels in these dimensions were associated to lower levels of depressive symptoms and higher levels in specific dimensions of marital satisfaction.	pt_PT
