Uso Problemático da Internet em Adultos: relação com o estilo de vida, estados emocionais negativos, proximidade e ligação aos outros

| dc.description.abstract | Objetivos: Conscientes do crescente número de utilizadores da internet e do seu possível efeito na nossa vida, nomeadamente ao nível do estilo de vida e da saúde psicológica, temos como principal objetivo examinar a relação entre o uso problemático da Internet, o estilo de vida, estados emocionais negativos e proximidade aos outros. São objetivos específicos: 1) Caracterizar os participantes em termos da sua utilização da Internet, de modo a identificar o uso problemático da Internet e perceber as suas implicações no estilo de vida, na estados emocionais negativos e no sentimento de proximidade e ligação aos outros; 2) Analisar a relação entre a perceção do uso da Internet com o uso problemático da Internet, estilo de vida, sintomatologia psicopatológica, e sentimento de proximidade e ligação aos outros; 3) Estudar as diferenças nas variáveis sociodemográficas e sentimento de proximidade aos outros em função do uso problemático/adequado da Internet; Metodologia: A amostra foi constituída por 333 sujeitos, sendo 72,1% do sexo feminino, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e os 71 anos (M = 35,71; DP = 12,52). O protocolo do estudo foi composto por: Questionário Sociodemográfico, Questionário do Uso da Internet, Escala do Uso Generalizado Problemático da Internet (EUGPI2), Questionário Estilo de Vida Fantástico (EVF) e Escala da Proximidade e Ligação aos outros (EPLO). Resultados: Da amostra 12,6 % referem abdicar frequentemente/quase sempre das atividades do dia-a-dia para estar na Internet e 10,8% estabelecem novas relações através da Internet. Quanto maior o uso problemático da Internet, pior o estilo de vida dos sujeitos, maior o estado emocional negativo (depressão, ansiedade e stresse) e menor a sua proximidade aos outros. Relativamente às variáveis sociodemográficas, foram os mais jovens (18 aos 25 anos) e os solteiros a utilizarem a Internet de forma mais problemática. Conclusão: Os resultados obtidos permitem identificar associações importantes entre o uso problemático da Internet, os estados emocionais negativos, o estilo de vida e a proximidade aos outros. Neste sentido, e de acordo com os resultados obtidos, a investigação nesta área, que se encontra em constante mudança, é essencial, assim como a necessidade de intervenção como forma de prevenção. / Objectives: Aware of the growing number of internet users and its possible effect our lives, namely on life style and psychological health, our main objective is to examine the relationship between problematic internet use, lifestyle, negative emotional states and closeness to others. The specific objectives are: 1) Characterise the participants in terms of their Internet use, in order to identify problematic Internet use and to understand its implications in lifestyle, negative emotional states and feelings of closeness and connection to others; 2) Analyse the relationship between perceived Internet use and problematic Internet use, lifestyle, psychopathological symptoms, and feelings of closeness and connection to others; 3) Study the differences in sociodemographic variables and feelings of closeness to others according to problematic/appropriate Internet use; Method: The sample of the present research consists of 333 subjects, 72.1% female and 27.9% male, aged between 18 and 71 years (M = 35.71; SD = 12.52). The study protocol consists of a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, a Questionnaire of Internet Use, the Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale (EUGPI2), the Fantastic Lifestyle Questionnaire (FSQ) and the Proximity and Connection to Others Scale (EPLO). Results: Most respondents have been using the Internet for more than 10 years (81.4%) and spend 2 to 4 hours a day on the Internet for leisure (38.1%) and work (33.6%). Of the sample, 12.6% said that they often/almost always give up their daily activities to be on the Internet and 10.8% said that they establish new relationships through the Internet. The results reveal that the greater the problematic use of Internet, the greater the preference for online social interaction, the use of Internet as mood regulation, the deficient self-regulation and the negative consequences of such use, the lower the subjects' lifestyles and the less closeness to others. Negative emotional states showed a positive relationship with the EUGPI and its subscales, which reveals that psychopathological symptoms are associated with a problematic use of the Internet. With regard to the socio-demographic variables, it is the youngest (18 to 25 years old) and the unmarried who use the Internet in a problematic way. Conclusion: The results obtained allow us to identify important associations between problematic Internet use, negative emotional states, lifestyle and proximity to others. In this sense, and according to the results obtained, research in this area, which is constantly changing, is essential, as well as the need for intervention as a form of prevention. | pt_PT |
