Resumo
Sendo o Serviço Social uma profissão que tem uma relação subjacente com os direitos humanos, cujo “objeto” de intervenção é o sujeito e as relações humanas, tendo como especificidade o intervir de modo a capacitar os indivíduos para a promoção da mudança que conduza ao bem-estar social, é para este essencial uma reflexão crítica constante sobre as questões éticas associadas à responsabilidade do seu agir, delineando a prossecução de princípios que respeitem valores de autodeterminação, cidadania, coesão, equidade e justiça social.
De um modo especial, em saúde a primazia deve ser a compreensão e o respeito pela pessoa do doente dado ser alguém, habitualmente, em sofrimento, com receios e que para além de necessitar de ato técnico, necessita igualmente de saber que existe disposição e cuidado para consigo.
Neste sentido, consideramos, que apesar da relação entre o doente e o profissional de saúde ser uma relação desigual a nível técnico, como relação humana é (e deve ser) intrinsecamente ética, exigindo para o efeito, que a pessoa doente seja o principal foco de atenção e não apenas a sua doença, pois só assim a assistência se pode considerar humanizada.
A complexidade inerente ao trabalho das problemáticas sociais em Saúde, e os desafios constantes, exigem do Serviço Social um trabalho criativo que fomente o estudo do doente numa perspetiva sistémica e o desenvolvimento de medidas que beneficiem e satisfaçam as expetativas dos utentes e restantes profissionais de saúde, pelo que o presente trabalho, carateriza a atividade profissional desenvolvida e as transformações que têm vindo a ocorrer na prática do Serviço Social, constituindo-se como um contributo que afirma a importância da sua intervenção como elemento integrante da equipa multidisciplinar, no processo de autonomia e promoção do bem-estar do cidadão com diabetes, e simultaneamente, como uma
reflexão sobre as boas práticas de intervenção na área da Saúde. / Social Work is a profession that has an underlying relationship with human rights, in which the "focus" of intervention is the subject and human relations, and whose purpose is to intervene in order to empower individuals to promote change that will lead to social well-being. Bearing this in mind, it becomes essential for these professionals a constant critical reflection on the ethical issues associated with the responsibility of their actions, outlining the pursuit of values concerning self-determination, citizenship, cohesion, equity and social justice.
In a special way, in health the priority should be on understanding and respecting the individual patient as someone who usually suffers with fears and so needs to know that there is provision and care for him, besides a more technical intervention.
Hereof, we believe that although the relationship between the patient and the health professional to be an unequal one on a technical level, as human relationship is (and should be) inherently ethical, demanding that the sick person is the main focus attention and not just their illness, because only then the support can be humanized.
The complexity inherent to social issues in Health and their constant challenges require from Social Work a creative work that can promote the study of the patient in a holistic perspective and the development of measures to benefit and meet the expectations of patients and other health professionals. Hence, this work characterizes the developed professional activities and the changes that have taken place in the practice of Social Work. It establishes itself as a contribution that states the importance of Social Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team in the autonomy process and promoting the welfare of citizens with diabetes and, at the same time, as a reflection on the best practices of intervention in the health field.
